A new and very popular travel trend among French tourists is highlighted by the French website Generation Voyage, focusing on the choice of “micro-islands” for holidays—exotic island destinations of small size that can be easily explored without a vehicle. According to the travel site, which is read by millions of young French travellers, “Greece has islands as beautiful as small pieces of paradise. These unconventional destinations offer authentic experiences that cannot be compared with the larger islands of the Mediterranean.”
In the “ten small oases” list, the Small Cyclades occupy some of the top positions in the preferences of French travellers, based on the experience of the list’s creators. Among other destinations in Greece and abroad, the outlet notes characteristically that “the history of Iraklia, which exceeds 5,000 years, is intertwined with prehistoric human presence, many fascinating rock carvings, and monuments of fortresses and temples.”
