My Iraklia: Simple and Natural

My Iraklia: Simple and Natural

Caterina, a teacher, and Marino, an insurance broker from Italy, arrived on Iraklia for the first time in 1991, with their three children. “[It was] late in the afternoon, in the pink light of sunset. We soon understood, in the quiet atmosphere of the island, that we were going to return often. So we returned year after year, with our children grown up now, bringing our friends as well as our children’s friends.” They shared with us some of their favorite things about the island.

Wild Nature
“We love Iraklia because there you will find wild nature, wonderful sea and blue sky.”

The People
“The people are simple and kind, they’ll become your friends, not just acquaintances met by chance, as happens with tourists. Is that farfetched? No, it’s true. You can see for yourself if you go to Iraklia.”

Walking, Swimming, Scopelitis
“We love walking, swimming and sunbathing on the beach, reading in the shade of the tamarisk trees. We enjoy hearing the sound of happy children’s voices as they play in the garden of the school in the afternoon. And in the evening, waiting for the Scopelitis [local ferry line] at the port; or diving from a rock in the bay.”

“You can do all the above pretty much anywhere, but we enjoy it most on Iraklia because there it’s simple and natural.»
