#1 Sahara Beach at Mikri Vigla
“An endless beach coastline that’s ‘just for me’ … even during the peak season, in mid-August. Diving without a mask, eyes wide open; 360 degrees of blue; images to get you through the gray days of winter.”
#2 The Village of Chalki
“Strolling in the old capital of the island, with its picturesque streets and houses drowning in blooming wisteria and jasmine.”
#3 Taverna Stella in Eggares
“It’s the first day of holiday and the usual group of friends (parea) meets at this sweet just-like-mom-used-to-make taverna. I attack the full basil plant she keeps in the garden and bring some sprigs back to my studio apartment.”
#4 Safari Plaka-Tripodes
“May this dirt road never change! The road — like a safari — takes you through huge rocks, wild prickly pears and reed plants that rustle and scare you during the night … and then the curve at Kalamouria, taking you back to civilization…”
